BULAN DI LANGIT. Looking at photographs of my younger days, it does reflect a carefree, party-filled life. The people that I knew were either royals, a few children of businessmen or those that come from the highest Federal families in the land. But no matter how glorious we foolishly thought we were, whenever we went to a party hosted by Chinese Malaysians, we were jolted into reality - at their houses, there were Ferraris, Porches and Lambroghinis parked out front. We Malays would arrived by taxi. A Chinese friend once told me that children of the towkay families graded themselves not according to titles, as the Malay custom, but by a family’s worth - RM100 million, RM200 million…or more. I do not despise their wealth. They earned it. I only wish for similar economic achievement for our Bumiputra families.
