BULLETIN 44 –2 September 2014 Greetings everyone, This will be the LAST bulletin I have returned from a weekend break in Cooktown, and will be posting a few more parcels this afternoon. Thank you for your support for our beloved Mutchilba State School. We surely had a grand weekend for our reunion – even the weather was glorious. We estimate that we had around 700 people there, with past students and staff travelling from Japan and New Zealand, as well as Melbourne, Sydney, Darwin, Alice Springs and all over Queensland. Thank you all for making the time to return to your childhood hometown. To follow up on the last bulletin – the Woods family have the record for the most number of children at the school at the same time. In 1952 the Messina family record of five at school at the one time has been broken by the Woods family in 1952. Dorothy began school in 1944, Frances and Patricia enrolled in 1946, then Ann and Gordon in 1950, and Grace in 1952. So in 1952 there were six Woods children at the school. Five of them are in the 1953 photo (Dorothy had sat the old Scholarship the previous year). For those who were unable to attend, there is still merchandise remaining. The mugs are in short supply though. There are still books available, although these have proved a hit, and we still need to donate to our local libraries and schools. Attached is an order form. If you wish to do a direct debit, let me know, and I will give you details. • If you just require books, we can post up to three in one package, anywhere in Australia for $15. Local residents can pick one up at the shop, or from the school. • If you require other merchandise, let me know what you require, and I will cost it at our local Post Office, and let you know. (Locals please call in at the school). Finally, we will send out a disc of photos taken on the day. These will cost $25, plus $5 postage if that is all you require. Locals can pick up from school at a later date. Do keep in touch with your old school friends – and to answer a question, no, we did not, and can not, compile a list of contacts to be given out. Privacy legislation – but if you need an email contact for someone, just let me know, and I will notify them….. best I can do! So that’s it folks. Thanks again for your support, and thank you for the many messages sent to me for my work for this reunion. May I say, that I think I had the easy job. As in many organisations, there is a small army of workers who contributed to the success of the reunion. I certainly did not organise it on my own. But I appreciate the messages. Regards from Mutchilba, Lyne Nowell
