BULLETIN! There Is NO Ebola Outbreak in America It never ceases to amaze me how people tend to panic when misinformation is disseminated to the public by the misinformed. Here are the facts: 1) Ebola IS NOT easily transmitted! It is not an airborne pathogen. 2) In the USA there is ONE reported case of Ebola in Dallas Texas. Hardly an outbreak About Ebola: Ebola spreads through human-to-human transmission via direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people, and with surfaces and materials (e.g. bedding, clothing) contaminated with these fluids. (WHO) When an infection does occur in humans, the virus can be spread in several ways to others. Ebola is spread through direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes in, for example, the eyes, nose, or mouth) with blood or body fluids (including but not limited to urine, saliva, sweat, feces, vomit, breast milk, and semen) of a person who is sick with Ebola objects (like needles and syringes) that have been contaminated with the virus infected animals Ebola is not spread through the air or by water, or in general, by food. However, in Africa, Ebola may be spread as a result of handling bushmeat (wild animals hunted for food) and contact with infected bats. There is no evidence that mosquitos or other insects can transmit Ebola virus. Only mammals (for example, humans, bats, monkeys, and apes) have shown the ability to become infected with and spread Ebola virus. (CDC) Symptomatically Ebola presents itself in the same manner as any number of illnesses so there is no need to be concerned about contracting the disease until there is a true outbreak. Enterovirus D68 however is spreading like wildfire throughout the north eastern US and other strains of the virus are rapidly spreading across America. As always the best way to be proactive against these viruses is to boost your immune system.
