BUNDESLIGA / NOT APPEALING THE SENTENCE Hoeness resigns and will go to prison Bayern president Uli Hoeness has decided not to appeal his 3 year, 6 month prison sentence and has announced his decision to resign from his position at the German club. Hoeness will therefore leave the clubs presidency as well as his place in its controlling committee. After having spoken with my family, I have decided to accept the Munich Provincial Courts sentence. I have instructed my lawyers not to issue an appeal, said Hoeness in a statement. This decision is something that I see as decency and personal responsibility. Tax evasion has been a great mistake in my life and I will fully assume the consequences, he added. Hoeness then went on to announce his immediate resignation from the German clubs presidency and controlling committee. By doing so, I wish to avoid any damage to the club. Bayern is and will always be my lifes work, he declared. I would like to thank my personal friends and the Bayern fans for the support that they have given me, he said. Hoeness was condemned for the tax evasion of an estimated €27.2 million. This debt came from income obtained from speculating on the stock market through a Swiss bank, subsequently not declared to the tax authorities
