BUSHFIRES!!! N.S.W. firefighters are facing another tough day, with temperatures expected to climb and a dry wind change to come through. Crews have been battling large fires in the Blue Mountains since Thursday, in a bid to save homes in the area where almost 200 properties have been destroyed and another 109 damaged. The hospital at Springwood was evacuated yesterday ahead of the expected worsening in conditions. The weather bureau says its predicted to reach 34 degrees in the Hunter but it will be about five degrees cooler in the Blue Mountains where two emergency warnings were issued yesterday. The Salvation Army, Red Cross & St Vincent de Paul have launched appeals for contributions to disaster relief funds. Salvation Army officers and volunteers have been helping in evacuations centres and delivering meals to evacuated residents and emergency services personnel. Long after the fires have gone down and the smoke has cleared, The Salvation Army & others will still be in these communities, standing side-by-side with those affected, to help them pick up the pieces and begin the long process of healing and rebuilding, When Nature is at its worst Australians are at their best. There are 3 ways you can donate: Salvation Army: salvos.org.au or 13 72 58. Red Cross: redcross.org.au or 1800 811 700 or St Vincent de Paul: vinnies.org.au or 13 18 12 Many thanks Gareth McCray Radio 2CH
