BUSINESS UPDATE WITH Orange Main milk producing regions have received shockwaves after a four month long dry spell hit most parts of the country, pushing up milk prices. A survey conducted in supermarkets and retail shops in Kampala indicated that the price of fresh milk has shot up from sh1,000 to between sh1,800 and sh2,000 per liter, while the pasteurised packaged milk such as Jesa, Fresh Dairy and other products went up from sh2,000 to between sh2,200 and sh2,600 per liter, depending on the location. Statistics indicate that milk production in Uganda is estimated at one billion litres annually. The chairman of Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum Mr Elly Karuhanga, has continued to encourage more local participation in the mining and petroleum sectors of the country. Karuhanga says the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum was also considering offering sponsorship or any other kind of support to the Uganda Petroleum Institute, Kigumba and other institutions offering a similar curriculum. President Yoweri Museveni has launched a state-of-the-art steel manufacturing plant in Jinja under the leadership of MM Integrated Steel Mills Ltd.
