BUSINESS UPDATE WITH Orange Uganda The Civil Aviation Authority has asked the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to exempt it from paying taxes on firefighting trucks and other non-commercial aviation equipment. The CAA manager public affairs Ignie Igunduura says the equipment have no commercial value and thus no profits can be accrued out of them. He explains that they pay more than 4oo million shillings in taxes on only one truck and yet the trucks are only deployed on emergency responses when fires break out in Entebbe and Kampala. A total of 8.8 billion shillings youth economic security is set to be rolled out in the next three years to support through improved savings and skills enhancement. The program financed by Plan Uganda under the theme ‘A Working Future’ is targeting 12,000 youth and will be executed in partnership with the private sector. President Yoweri Museveni has asked the foreign investors in Uganda to tap into the investment opportunities available in the country, especially in the areas of Agro–processing, and other minerals which have been discovered such as phosphates, iron ore, wolfram, among others. The president made the remarks while Commissioning the Multi-billion Galaxy International School in Uganda at Lubowa, Wakiso District. Museveni said many of these minerals were lying idle and yet they can spur economic development and offer employment to the jobless skilled youths once mined. A business delegation from the United States of America has commended the Kenyan government for creating a conducive business environment in Kenya. Speaking at a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, the US business delegation commended the reforms and policies that have been implemented to streamline business operations. Sina Corp, owner of Chinas largest Twitter-like site Weibo, has reported a net profit of $44.5m in the October-to-December period, up from $2.4m a year ago. The numbers come amid reports that Sina is planning to list Weibo in the US alongside plans to raise nearly $500m by selling Weibo shares to over 500 million registered users.
