BUSINESSMAN ROBBED AT GUNPOINT Jwaneng police are investigating an incident in which a local businessman was robbed an undisclosed amount at gunpoint. The Commander of Jwaneng Police Station, Supt Theriso Thatayotlhe, told BOPA that the incident occurred Sunday night (May 11) at the victim’s residence in Unit 5.It is reported that unidentified men who were wearing masks attacked the victim and his minor child and got away with the day’s proceeds from his business. Supt Thatayotlhe said the victim received treatment at the Jwaneng Mine Hospital for minor head injuries that he sustained while his child, who escaped unharmed, would need counselling for trauma. He said no arrests have been made so far in connection with the incident but police were working hard to find the culprits. He expressed concern about escalating robbery incidents in the township, saying just recently another resident was robbed at his home in Unit 3. He said the robbers got away with P7 000, undisclosed foreign currencies and cellphones. He advised business people and other residents to avoid moving around with cash without security. He also encouraged business people to increase their security in their homes if they are forced to carry cash home. In other news, Supt Thatayotlhe expressed concern about the increased use of marijuana in Jwaneng, which resulted in more incidents of fighting, recklessness of students and other social ills. He said police were working with crime prevention committees to deal with the problem. He called on parents to take care of their children at all times, explaining that recently an eight-year-old girl was indecently assaulted by an 18 year old man. He said when a crime has been committed against a minor, parents should report and consider the welfare of the child by cooperating with police investigators.
