BY ALLISON WILSON Quill Sports Editor The West Plains High School varsity football team is 2-1 on the season with a 21-14 victory over the Springfield Glendale Falcons on Friday at Zizzer Stadium. Seconds after the contest the Zizzer players huddled around Head Coach Steve Ary on the field. He praised their efforts and told them they did what they need to do to on the field to get the victory. West Plains will face the Hillcrest Hornets at 7 p.m. Friday in Springfield. The Hornets are 2-1 with a 41-22 win over the Joplin Eagles this past Friday in Springfield. The Falcons got on the board first with an early touchdown in the first quarter and kick to lead 7-0 over the Zizzers. West Plains’ Jacob Womack then scored and Gaige Moss kicked in the extra point to tie the game 7-7 with 4:47 on the clock in the first quarter. The Falcons answered with a touchdown and kick with 4:33 on the clock to lead 14-7. Moss scored and kicked in the extra point to tie the game 14-14 with 2:40 on the clock in the second quarter. The game remained tied at halftime and no one scored in the third quarter. With 9:29 on the clock in the fourth quarter, Zizzer John Williams scored and Gaige Moss kicked in the extra point. STATS Zizzer quarterback Sam Hall completed 10 of 12 passes for 93 yards. Moss caught four passes for 37 yards; Gerard Dietrich, one for 28; Matt Wernsing, one for 11; Womack, three for nine; and Williams, one for eight. Rushing, Moss had 31 carries for 130 yards; Hall had nine for a loss of 17; Womack six for 25; Williams three for 18; Wernsing two for 16; and Jacob Mitchell one for zero yards. Leading tackles was Wernsing with eight and Logan Collins six. Moss had four kickoffs for 179 yards; Hall two punts for 96 yards; Womack one kickoff return for 46 yards and one punt return for 14 yards; Williams one kickoff return for nine yards.
