Babies having babies—a story all too often that unfolds itself at ACC. Sarafina, (no more than 2 years old), is sitting in a cage at Brooklyn ACC after reportedly having been found as a Queens stray. She’s lactating but nobody seems to have a clue as to what happened to her pups. So this poor baby is wondering where her home went, and most important, where her babies went. She kept a stiff upper lip during her medical exam and was found to be in reasonably good health. But very soon, those post delivery hormones will kick in and Sarafina is really going to have a hard time sitting in that cage away from her babies. So ACC has decided there is really no more time for Sarafina and they’ve put her on tomorrow’s euthanasia list. After all, she’s just another brown dog, another throwaway momma—nothing special about her. But tonight a special someone out there has a chance to show Sarafina that she really does matter, that she really is loved and that she’s going to have the chance to become what she really wants to be—Sarafina just wants to be a dog! If you’re that someone, speak up to foster or adopt Sarafina. Be prepared to help her through her post delivery hormonal behavior but be prepared to have a lifelong companion who will always show you gratitude and love. But do it now—tomorrow, ACC will just confirm their opinion of Sarafina and she’ll be gone.
