Baby Love by the Supremes hit No. 1 on the charts 50 years ago - TopicsExpress

Baby Love by the Supremes hit No. 1 on the charts 50 years ago today (10/31/1964). The song was written by the Holland-Dozier-Holland team which wrote a number of other hits for Motown. After having a hit with Where Did Our Love Go at the urging of Berry Gordy there are many sound-alike elements in the girls new song. In the original release we hear a brief solo ad-lib by back-up singers Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson but the releases later you only hear the solo sounds of Diana Ross. The Funk Brothers played the instruments for the song and Mike Valvano was brought in just to provide the foot stomping. youtube/watch?v=23UkIkwy5ZM
