Baby bats wrapped up in blankets are always cute, but these little orphans represent a much larger concern for Australia’s flying-foxes. Although adapted to the warm Australian climate, these large mega bats have trouble regulating their body temperature when mercury starts to rise above 104F. Mothers and young are particularly susceptible to the heat and the increasing frequency of extreme heat waves in Australia, due to climate change, has many thousands of flying-foxes perishing. Rescue centers like the Australian Bat Clinic & Wildlife Trauma Centre do great work to rehabilitate young after they are separated from their mothers. Remember these carers are vaccinated trained specialists and members of the public should not handle bats. If you find a bat please call an expert or local wildlife authority. BCI recommends that all professionals wear gloves when handling bat species. Watch: https://youtube/watch?v=Uuvaos1WHTk&list=LL2Mkc67sA6zyknQeoOyxC0w&index=1
