“Back Home in London” Krishna Upadhyaya and Gundev Ghimire are back home after six days of detention in Qatar, and then eleven “painful” procedural days of waiting for the closing of the case in Qatar. Mr. Upadhyaya and Mr. Ghimire went to Qatar on the 29th of August for their report concentrated mainly on the Nepalese migrant workers’ rights who work in construction field in that country. The report aimed to cover the issues of a global concern such as exploitation of forced labour, violation of freedom of movement, rights to security, and right to the adequate standard of live of the migrant workers in Qatar. On the 31st of August Mr. Upadhyaya and Mr. Ghimire aimed to leave Qatar back to their home. On their way to the airport they were kept by the police and were held till the 6th of September without the right to contact their families or lawyers. They were detained for six and a half days and then announced arrested. Thankfully this period is ended. However, they were allowed to leave Qatar only on the 18th of September, closing of the case took eleven days. On the 19th of September Krishna Upadhyaya and Gundev Ghimire reached their home in London. GNRD praise the Qatar’s authority who acknowledged the fact of the enforced disappearance of the two GNRD employees and ended it within one week. We deeply thank the international community and everyone for the great efforts and support to make this happen. More could be said by Mr. Upadhyaya’s statement “Back home in London!” gnrd.net/seemore.php?id=938
