Back at last after the Xmas, New Year break and a lot has been taking place. On the 19th of December three questions were asked in the house (Oireachtas) and were aimed at the IFI. Q1. To ask the Minister for Communications, energy and natural resources the reason the board of the Inland Fisheries Ireland does not have representation for coarse, pike and sea angling which generates 79% of the total revenue, and if he will make a statement on the matter. Reply....I will abridge the reply as most of it is waffle and rubbish. part of it says! The Inland Fisheries Act 2010 are set out at Section 7 conservation of the inland fisheries resource. The Act, in defining the membership of the IFI provides that the persons to be appointed shall have experience or capacity in one of the areas defined in the Act; and that they shall be appointed with a view to representing public interest. The current Board was appointed in accordance with the provisions of the IFI act 2010. End! There is more bull s--t in the statement but the more you read the more angry you will get. My interpretation is...They are operating a closed shop and do not want any other representation other than from the game fishing fraternity. Not very diplomatic is it and our findings will be put before our legal team. Q2. To ask the Minister for Communications, energy and natural resources the reason lough Corrib is a special area of conservation, yet the IFI have gill nets on this lake to remove pike; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Reply....As yet no specific reply to this question. Q3. To ask the Minister for Communications, energy and natural resources the reason the IFI have increased the size of pike for the table from 50cm to 85cm on trout lakes and if he will make a stat ement on the matter. Reply. You couldnt make this up lads. I will abridge the answer once again as, once again it is enshrouded in bull s--t. (GC) A small number of waters in the State are selectively managed as wild brown trout fisheries where managment of the competing species takes place. ( I gues that covers the gill netting bull s--t. GC) Pike in these waters are managed by the IFI and I understand that the proposal (Now get this bit lads. GC) is to increase the size of the pike that can be retained from 50cm to 85cm. The rationale is so that tourist and domestic angling sector would benefit from the opportunity for anglers to retain one pike per day up to the new proposed size limit and generate a significant positive contribution to the local tourism economy. End. As I say lads you couldnt make it up could you. They must think we are all as thick as pig muck. True visiting pike anglers, of which there are very few thanks to IFI policies dont kill fish. Am I wrong in saying most pike at 85cm are females which if not gill netted spawn early in the year. I have it on very good authority that there are many more questions being asked in the house very shortly. I guess on all of the replies we will be sprayed, once again with urine. No problem lads as everything is being recorded and will be passed on to our legal team. In the morning at 10am I have a meeting via the phone with the UKs leading legal experts on the fisheries and pollution front. Next week I hope to meet one of Irelands most influencial figures in angling who is now very angry at what is taking place here. IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE THE IRISH ANGLING ALLIANCE WILL BE CALLING ON YOUR SUPPORT AND MEMBERSHIP FUNDS. WE CAN WIN THIS ONE LADS BUT ONLY WITH YOU BACKING US. LOTS OF HARD WORK HAS ALREADY GONE INTO THIS. PLEASE DONT LET US DOWN.
