For those heading off to Spain soon, some useful apps that can be used on wifi-only/dont require cellular (free wifi at lots of cafes along camino). Dropbox - set to auto-upload your photos, so that you have backups if your phone is lost/stolen/damaged. Whatsapp and Viber - free text messaging, similar to iPhone Messaging but cross-platform. Skype - almost-free phone calls, useful for calling home, your airline and for hotel/albergue reservations. Kindle for books. Install a couple of put baby to sleep white noise albums on your music to drown out snorers when earplugs wont cut it. Add Pamplona, Burgos, Leon and Santiago to Yahoo Weather app. Boingo lets you firewall your wifi access. Preload maps onto your phone from CityMaps2Go and you can see them when offline. Duolingo, CatSpanish and SpanishDict for Spanish language practice. Alsa and Movelia for bus schedules (smartphone apps much easier than full websites). Renfe Viaje and Rail Europe for train schedules (smartphone apps much easier than full websites). Booking for hotel reservations, even a few private alburgues are listed. Set your Spotify so you can hear music when offline. Finally, scan your drivers license, passport info page, front and back of credit/atm cards and hide them in your email - so even if disaster strikes, you can get to a regular computer and pull up all your info.
