Back home in Killeen AT LAST! For those of you keeping score, I left home to begin this odyssey back on the 20th of January. Its good to be back with my family and my OWN BED. I getting much better at shifting that big black Pete, and getting used to running loads that....frankly scare me. Like two 20,000lb spools of steel cable that made the trailer top-heavy. Boy was I glad to get out from under THOSE things! It also looks like Ill be playing a new game....Called Dodge the weigh stations. There is a sheet-rock/wall board manufacturer up in the north of Tx that ROUTINELY loads over max gross weight... Upon calling safety, we were told that the company has a deal with this customer where even if overweight were supposed to run the load, and dispatch will route us around weigh stations. Good, great, fine...unless the local county mounties set up a random roadside weigh station and catch us running heavy. If that happens we get ticketed. The company says they will pay the fine for us...but we still end up with points against our licence. I dont like it....but I will play ball. That is, all the way up until I get nailed and my licence takes a hit. Then I will never accept a load from that customer again. My licence IS NOT here to be taken advantage of so that some backdoor deal can go on....and Im betting that this little sneaky-sneaky deal would NOT be approved higher up in the company...so I think they dont know about it. THAT will change the moment my licence takes a hit... I will climb the chain of commend like a spider monkey on crack. But it sure is good to be home. Off to get a haircut....I look like a damn hippie.
