Back in 1996 my dad stopped taking me to school with his car,it happened accidentally,he was in a meeting and he completely forgot about me,so in childhood bravery i began my walk from Masunga Primary to Maruje CJSS,mind you i was scared to death because i was not used to walking in a relatively traffic busy road,i walked home in tears,asking strangers for directions,i was only 8,after that,my dad said i was so smart because i had managed to find my way home,so i started trekking my way to and fro every single school day and when i transferred to Mogorosi Primary my bro and I used to walk a kilometre to and fro every morning and evening,sometimes running the track.I learnt to have fun walking the distance and though at first i had initially thought of the situation as the worst thing that could happen to me,i now see it as a blessing in disguise.It prevented me from being OBESE.It pains me to see children who are obese because they are transported everywhere,and are not allowed to play outside.When we stop our children from being active in the name of love we might actually be killing them,you are not only giving children diabetes,you expose them to literally every lifestyle disease associated with being obese.Let your children play outside,a little dust wont kill them,let them walk a little,run a little,stop them from eating junk,let them help around the house,even if you have a helper,let them know that work is not punishment but an essential part of existence,if you love them that much.It might not be ideal in todays world to let your kids walk to school alone,but there are alternatives,just keep them moving,it will save you a lot of heart ache later in life.
