Back in October 2012 you will recall Send Me More Lino, an exhibition to support the development of youth arts in Timor Leste Your support and interest in that exhibition has been a key part of some wonderful development in youth arts in Timor Leste. Over $3000 was sent to the Afalyca art group in Baucau following Send Me More Lino. Afalyca agreed to train six young people from Ainaro (Ballarats friendship district). I travelled to Baucau in 2013 for the Baucau Music and Arts Festival and the 3 weeks of training followed the festival. The six Ainaro people returned home very excited with what they learned during the training! So, it was very important to continue the momentum following the training....... 1. We set a goal to establish a youth arts space in Ainaro in 2014 2. Over $4000 was raised on Pozible (crowd funding) to purchase materials and cover on-ground costs (Google: Pozible Ainaro Youth Arts Space for more information) 3. In July four people from Australia travelled to Ainaro for the training and we employed two East Timorese artists to assist. 4. The project was very successful and we have a new youth arts space in Ainaro called Arte Ramelau. 5. I returned to Timor Leste a few weeks later to accompany the new Arte Ramelau committee to the first Dili Public Art Event (Arte Publiku) 6. Arte Publiku provided lots of networking and workshops for the Arte Ramelau committee......highly successful participation! Once again, your support at Send Me More Lino has helped made this all possible! We have brought back some fantastic artwork from Arte Ramelau and other youth arts spaces in Dili and Baucau.
