Back in the 19th century, Ridge Road was known as the Shunpike - TopicsExpress

Back in the 19th century, Ridge Road was known as the Shunpike because it was the road farmers took to avoid paying the toll on Pearl Road. The Brooklyn Historical Society & Museum, 4442 Ridge Road, is commemorating the Shunpike with its annual Shunpike Shoppe fundraiser Sept. 27 and 28. The hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27 and noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 28. There will be a hand-quilted stained glass patchwork quilt raffle. You can also purchase homemade breads, bakery, pot holders and dried wreaths. Quilting demonstrations will be going on during the event. Tours of the museum will be given by a host of friendly volunteers who are members of the Brooklyn Historical Society. Admission is free. Call 216-941-0160 for more information.
