Back in the day I spent some time dealing with the venture capital world, and it was always expected that perhaps a majority of the investments made by venture capitalists would wind up going bust, and it was the ones that succeeded spectacularly that would make up for those losses. The same people who wouldnt have a problem with venture capitalists having those odds of success of course were apoplectic about the governments investment in Solyndra. The program overall has been a success, just like an overall successful venture capital fund that nevertheless funded some failures.
