Back in the mid 60s my Grand Pa ,Dad and a man who was a black smith turned in to a great welder in which he had a shop that was 20x20 with gravel floor gravel drive in which farmers brought there equipment to to be welded back together .This man fixed things better than new.Now together My grand Pa and Dad took 3 4 row JD 38 in row planters and made it a 12 row planter in which was pulled by a 830 case. Some amazing things about this planter was in front of these 3 planters was a front end off a single axle truck made in to a triangle so the wings folded down it would pull a 4 row planter in the center one on each end .To keep the planters rows even there was a collar with pin to hold each planter so the rows where planted straight.When time to move to another field just pull a pin in front of end planters remove the pins in between planters also fold up each end it would look like a single 4 row planter .Just hooked a pick up each 4 row planter go down the road to hook up pull each planter to the side of the other drop in hitch pin then as the planters were pulled forward the end 4 row planters lined up so all we had to do was drop in a pin so the planters could be pulled correct..Now the best part Purdue University.hear about this and came out with there cameras questions ? Saying that this would not work sense there has not been a 12 row planter made yet .2 days these members from Purdue walked rode on the planter ask questions .My Dad said the best part was backing the planter up Purdue said that you cannot back it up. My Dad went a quarter mile raised the three planters in which made it 12 rows and backed up a quarter mile in his tracks.Yes we used this planter for 8 years i think before getting a 12 row single planter .So the moral of this is just because it is not made yet by a big company dose not mean it cannot happen .I will see if my Dad has pictures of this planter still and share.I really enjoy looking at all the old pictures and stories in which told a story .Thanks for all the memories every body.
