Back safe and sound at home. Ahhhhh! Home. Halloween night! Got back just in time to greet trick or treaters. I have to say, I miss the days of taking my kids around in their costumes, but being here, opening the door, seeing all the kids decked out, smiling faces, and even the greedy little ones who scoop up handfuls of candy - such a joy! Theres nothing like the smile on a childs face. I suppose the juxtaposition of that was at the airport when I landed, I saw a young guy, maybe 10 or 11 being wheeled down the corridor and he didnt look well. I dont want to venture what he was going through but it didnt look good. I thought about him, all he is going through while his friends must be getting ready for the night... and here he is, confined to this wheelchair, pale and looking a bit detached. Not much I could do other than offer a silent prayer that whatever it is hes going through, I pray he is free of fear and pain, and one day soon hell be able to put a smile back on his face. As much as those kids at my door tonight delighted me so, the sadness on that boys face brings me back down to a rawer truth; our frailty, my humility, and the very fragility of this glorious gift of life. While we smile for all those young ones at our door tonight, take an extra moment a say a little prayer for those who cant be with them in sharing that joy. They are all our children, our future. Dont eat too much of your kids candy… and sleep tight.
