Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance Details recently announced: The administrative arrangements for the 2013 Back to School Clothing & Footwear Allowance (BSCFA) Scheme are similar to those that applied in 2012. Again this year, a large proportion of BSCFA entitlements will be fully automated with no application form required. Letters will issue to the people concerned over the next week informing them of their entitlement and notifying them that payment will issue in week commencing 15 July with their normal social welfare weekly payment. Those who do not receive an automated payment are required to complete application forms which will be processed from a centralised unit in the Department’s office in Letterkenny. To avoid duplication with automated payments, customers are requested to wait until 17th June before submitting an application form. Forms will be available from Local Offices, via SMS (text "Form BTSCFA" followed by your name and address to 51909) and on welfare.ie. A text message acknowledging receipt will issue this year to each customer who submits a manual claim so it is important that customers provide a mobile phone number as requested on the claim form. A phone bank is in operation to deal with queries on the scheme. The LO-CALL number is 1890 662244. To qualify for Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance the person; • must be in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment and • the payment must include an increase(s) in respect of a child/children, and • they must satisfy a means test. The rates of payment are €100 for children between the age of 4 and 11 years and €200 for children between 12 and 22 years.
