Back when I was a kid, Takum was a usual Christmas holiday - TopicsExpress

Back when I was a kid, Takum was a usual Christmas holiday destination for my siblings and I. We were always looking forward to December although there wasnt much to write home about in terms of the standard of living therein. The roads were un-tarred, electricity was very scarce, and social amenities were non-existent in comparison to what we were used to in Lagos. However, because we loved the euphoria and the spirit surrounding Christmas, we were able to take our minds off the negatives and hence, hoped and believed the situation will get better. Now, over three decades later, the situation in Takum and Taraba State as a whole is pretty much the same; nothing much has changed. It feels like the state had been neglected to run itself. It is quite a pity and it hurts me a lot to see the condition in which Taraba finds itself in considering the vast amounts of natural resources it is blessed with. 80% of our land is arable for agriculture, while it has also come to my understanding that silver, gold and oil have just been discovered in large. It may also interest you to know that Taraba state looses an average of 1billon dollars annually (approximately N170billion) from tourism alone. The revenue forgone from the lack of development in the tourism sector could otherwise be used to significantly improve the standard of education, provide quality healthcare services, and develop the infrastructures of the state. If these resources are carefully harnessed and used intelligently, I am confident that in a couple of years, Taraba State would be able to boast of being independent of federal government allocation. Brothers and sisters of Southern Taraba, it is in light of the foregoing that I, Dinshiya U. Kaigama of Takum LGA, declare my intention to run for the Federal House of Representatives. It is time for the youths to take the bull by the horn and cause a fresh start and light a new flame of hope for our beloved State. POSSIBILITY IS EVERYTHING………. Hon. Dinshiya Kaigama
