Back when TV was 4:3 editors used to use 16:9 unusable takes, because action would happen outside the safety. It makes lots of cuts not match in old sitcoms that are now presented in their full 16:9 frames; youll see a character repeat their dialogue because the reaction of another character is great at that moment, and so on. Sometimes you even see the actors break character. Heres Matt Le Blanc ducking out of frame to laugh.
