Backbiting is prohibited by the consensus of Muslims, and it’s one of the destructive sins, regardless the short coming is in the individual or not, depending on the hedith of the prophet blessing and peace be upon him when he was asked about the backbiting, said: “Do you know what backbiting is?” They said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He then said, “It is to say something about your brother that he would dislike.” Someone asked him, “But what if what I say is true?” The Messenger of Allah said, “If what you say about him is true, you are backbiting him, but if it is not true then you have slandered him. Allah Glory to him said: O ye who believe! avoid suspicion as much (as possible): for suspicion in some cases is a sin: and spy not on each other, nor speak ill of each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay, ye would abhor it. But fear Allah: for Allah is Oft-Returning, Most-Merciful. (49,12). The duty of the Muslim/MF to be very conscious of Backbiting & slandering, and advise each other to stay away as an obedience to Allah & His messenger blessing & peace be upon Him, and being careful to unveil his/her brother/sister, and disclose their short coming, and remember their virtues and good deeds, because backbiting is the cause of grudges, enmity and disperse the community. There are many forms where and how backbiting take place, the traditional one is some people gather in a house or a restaurant or a hall over a dinner, or cup of tea, other form is calling some on the phone, or chatting on face book, web site or any way or method. This takes place under name advising or joining good and forbidding bad together, or the interest of the community!! But in reality as the prophet blessing and peace be upon his said, it’s slandering, backbiting, humiliating and eating the flush of your brother/sister.
