If you are drinking your town’s water, then you are helping the environment by replenishing the watershed completely unlike bottled water which takes water but does not replace it leading to droughts. The water companies do not have to pay for the water they take. In some cases they just buy a small plot of land and build a pump house, so they are not even charged for the water they take because it is “well water,” and in times of drought they can keep pumping as the watershed suffers.
