Background info: Federal law requires Brooks County to recover, - TopicsExpress

Background info: Federal law requires Brooks County to recover, identify, transport and bury the bodies of undocumented immigrants who die trying to walk around the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint. Each dead immigrant costs the county at least $2500. This expense, as well as a loss of oil and gas generated revenue, has resulted in county layoffs, loss of employment benefits and caused off-duty officers from the Rio Grande Valley to volunteer their time helping out the countys four man staffed deputy team. Last night: Brooks County gets a 911 call from a group of immigrants reporting two men in their group died. This morning: We are with border volunteers assisting Brooks County when they along with Border Patrol agents find first of two bodies. Turns out the Border Patrol shift commander wasnt too happy to see reporters. He fussed and said it was his scene. I say, ok Mr. FEDERAL Agent in charge of the crime scene, you get the bill, you hand deliver it to Washington and stop expecting cash strapped Brooks County to pay the bills from YOUR scene.
