Bad News: Womens’ Bodies Are Still Genetically Fearful of Workforce Inequality : Source: Fishwrapper:– In case life and celebrity wasn’t generally horrifying enough for you, here’s a bit of a newsflash: plus-sized model Robyn Lawley — who’s currently pregnant — considered aborting her baby because she was concerned over the negative implications on her career. Let the crippling fear of inequality in the workforce sink in for a minute, OK? To Cosmopolitan, Robyn says, “I’ve been modeling for 10 years. … I have been working and traveling like crazy for years. That gets exhausting! I wanted to slow down the modeling, and up the designing and the cooking and other things that interest me. I love modeling, but I was already on my way to cutting back on that work to focus on quality over quantity. … Still, as soon as I found out I was pregnant, I had to take all options into account, because with a baby, I’ll have to majorly slow down — and I’m very career driven. That scared me.” But why did it scare her? Well, because apparently women who reproduce — whether intentionally or not (unintentionally in this case) are often shunted aside when it comes to the workforce, and when you’ve been doing the same thing for 10 years — something that physically involves your image, unfortunately — it can be a great impact on your livelihood — unless you’re Gisele Bundchen or Doutzen Kroes. She continued, “I’m lucky [that most clients have stuck by me], because I worried about stepping out of the light and someone stepping in and taking it all.” Sad.
