Bad times ahead. It seems my lovely Ffynnie, my gorgeous Lab girl of nearly 14, has a very aggressive leukaemia, I will know more later or tomorrow when bloods come back, (results were so way off they are checking at lab). Her wbc count was 77,000 (the normal range for a WBC count in the dog would be between 6,000 and 17,000 per microliter). It looks like her bone marrow is so infiltrated with cancer its packed up producing red blood cells. Her blood actually looks milky, you can see the cells with the naked eye. She is also anaemic, which is making her chesty. This has come on very quickly, and looks to be very aggressive, I think its just a matter of days, she is happy at the moment, but tires very quickly. Ffynnie was born with part of her back leg missing, she had a normal hock,t hen just a pad. She had a false leg for the first two years, replaced twice as she grew, made by a company in Dorset who made prosthetic limbs for humans, but after a friends dog chewed it up we decided not to get another.
