Badges and Burgers for Special Olympics GREENSBORO, NC (October 8, 2013) –Greensboro police will don aprons and serve burgers at the Red Robin Gourmet Burgers restaurant at 1507 Highwoods Boulevard, Saturday, Oct 12th as part of the national Tip-A-Cop event benefitting Special Olympics. Officers will collect tips and help serve meals to Red Robin guests from 11 am to 3 pm and 5 pm to 9 pm to raise funds and awareness about Special Olympics. Red Robin has been supporting Special Olympics Programs across the country for the past eight years and has helped raise more than $2.5 million for Special Olympics. The Greensboro Police Department has been an avid supporter of Special Olympics North Carolina which provides year-round sports training and competition for more than 38,000 Tarheel athletes who have intellectual disabilities. “We are proud to partner with Red Robin restaurants across the U.S. to raise funds for Special Olympics” said Officer Sherry Bruscino with the Greensboro Police Department. “By participating in sports, physical fitness and healthcare education programs, Special Olympics athletes increase self-confidence and social skills, improve physical and motor skills, and have better success in leading more productive and independent lives.” Tip-A-Cop is part of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run campaign to help raise money and public awareness for Special Olympics. Greensboro police have participated in several Tip-A-Cop events this year two Longhorn Steakhouse restaurants. All Tip-A-Cop proceeds collected by GPD officers go directly to local Special Olympics programs.
