Badminton Club has been somewhere where students can be competitive with only the flick of the wrist, and ability of keeping your eyes on the birdy. October 16th was the third meet of the year and its already off at a great start. The club meets on Thursdays in room 208. Last year, Junior Isabelle Saechao had got together with a few friends to try to start something that they thought the school needed, and didn’t expect how it would all turn out. “In my opinion, it was very exciting knowing that so many people liked the same sport as me,” Saechao said. “The feeling overcame my anxiety quickly.” After the first meet, going through the presentation that she stayed up the night before making, the rest of the meets became something students could go to after school to let off some stress. “Badminton is a fun sport that a lot of people know how to play,” Saechao said. “It’s also very affordable and its a lot more fun to compete with others.” THE PLAYERS “I learned from playing with my dad, uncles and cousins who loved to play badminton too,” sophomore Anoushka Srinivas said. Srinivas had become the public relations officer her freshman year after showing her dedication to the club. “It was always my favorite sport and after I came to the first few meetings, and found competitive players, I had to dedicate some time to trying to beat them,” Srinivas said. “At that point, I could not miss a day of badminton club.” Other than trying to relieve stress or having fun, competition can always be motivation to be better. “When I was little back in my country, in the winter season my cousins would play badminton a lot. But they would never let me play, because I used to suck. That’s really what got me into it,” sophomore Nahid Mohammed said. “When I came here, I got more into badminton because of the badminton club.”
