Bandipora-Srinagar Road in shambles BEACON ignores CM’s directions; People suffer Shabeer Ahamd Bandipora, June 9: Driving on 57 Kilometer dilapidated Bandipora–Srinagar road is a nightmarish experience for drivers and the commuters who use this road. Recent rains have added to the miseries of the people traveling on this road. “Drivers using this road have developed various ailments and disc problem among them has become very common,” said Abdul Rashid Shah President Sumo Association Bandipora. Most drivers who drive down on the road complain about the backache and allied ailments due to big potholes, he said. A driver Bashir Ahmad, who presently earns his livelihood by acting as a commission agent in Sumo stand Bandipora was advised by doctor to quit driving on Bandipora-Srinagar road. "I was advised to leave the driving job as I developed a fatal disc problem," he said. Locals as well as drivers alleged that BEACON is not taking any interest is repairing the road. “The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had directed the agency during a board meeting to repair the Srinagar-Bandipora Road immediately but nothing has been done till date,” locals said. “This road has been in shambles for many years. Despite it being repaired on many occasions it develops potholes due to frequent movement of the vehicles and the Army convoy,” locals said. “It seems the material used to repair this road is of sub standard quality.” "At Saderkoot village the huge pot hole has not been repaired for many years, " said a resident. “ Additional District Development Commissioner Bandipora Ghulam Muhammad Barkaboo told Greater Kashmir that BEACON Officials have been informed to initiate the repair work on the road. “Work will start within a few days”
