Bank holiday Monday morning commences with Rehan Latif cooking parathas and eating it with strawberry jam. I was telling him parathays are for people who work in the farms not on desks, he says he will play two hours of squash but dosent want to miss on paratha. The ease with which I and they would slip from Parisian croissants into mushtaqs parathas was legendary . The origin of this habit that all the grandchildren have it too, in 1990 we went back from Kuwait war zone but instead of Paris, I decided that children need to discover who they are. There we had a dhabah right in front of our house where the still being built F10 sector labourers would eat breakfast parathas in the dhabahs, I started going there on Friday mornings, I would love the basic life and the discussions with all of then, two of them even join our street cricket team, of course the habits engrained in all of us and still on passed on to Zeus. The labourers always greeted me as one of them , a paindu. I never felt anymore privileged too, this is what should be instilled in the children, whatever you are respect of every human being makes you special. That is how staple food of daal Chawal and parathas is preferred over Nobos and Le Notre until today.
