#BannedBooksWeek : A week that celebrates all the books that are challenged and sometimes even banned for one reason or another. Theres no such thing. If anyone, let alone a child, wishes to take the dive into a book, that is their own choice. If a child believes he or she is capable of reading ##HarryPotter, who are you to stop them? And if you try to stop them from reading #TheGoldenCompass, what are you doing other than telling them what they should believe in? When they try to read ##TheGiver, dont you dare stop them. Let them know that the world can be cruel. Let them realize that sometimes everything you know can be a lie. When they go to read #AWrinkleInTime, how could you even think about stopping them from finding out that the greatest weapon of all, is love? And lastly, if they decide to read #TheBridgeToTerabithia dont punish them, let them learn how to deal with death, let them figure out how to keep their minds wide open. Because if we begin to decide whats okay for a child to read and what isnt, then arent we making our futures into drones, destined to repeat a history where previous generations have failed? Arent we becoming the evil men we read about in these Banned books? Something to think about this week as we celebrate the books that dare to push the limits.
