Barabbas (or Bar Abbas) is the Hellenized form of the Aramaic name - TopicsExpress

Barabbas (or Bar Abbas) is the Hellenized form of the Aramaic name Bar Abba, meaning son of Abba. And the name Jesus (Greek, Yesous) is the Hellenized form of the Hebrew name Yeshua, meaning God is salvation. So when the people gathered together, Pilate said to them, Whom do you want me to release for you? The son of Abba, or God is salvation who is called Christ? As the God who is salvation is lifted up from the earth, his perfect love put on display for all humanity, the sons of Abba are freed. How? Because as Jesus says, eternal life is to be brought into the knowledge of the one true God and Jesus his perfect reflection. In the cross, God is made known. In the cross, we see the clearest picture of God, a divine love which casts out all fear and draws all the prodigals back home, destroying the captivity of sin and death. As the image of the invisible God is marred, the image of God in humanity is restored. God is revealed through Christs humanity, and sets us all free from death by drawing us into the knowledge of him which is eternal life.
