Barbell Suitcase Deadlift- an excellent variation of the conventional deadlift with a focus on core strength,stability as well as improving your grip strength.Due to the off balance load your core has to work hard to resist rotation as you lift making it a great anti-rotation exercise. Same set up cues apply as you would in a conventional deadlift only the bar is at your side and not the front. You will really feel your oblique muscles working hard to keep you balanced as the goal is to maintain a neutral spine. Suitcase deadlifts can be performed with other implements such as dumbbells,kettle bells etc. I particularly like the barbell as I like the challenge of trying to balance the bar evenly in my hand and not let it tip from one end to the other. I personally like to perform these in a core/ab circuit, but you can also could include them in a conditioning circuit. I have researched in the past that it can be used as a assistance exercise as part of your deadlift session.
