Barbu savours incredible ERC 2WD victory in Sibiu Sebastian Barbu has described his last-gasp victory in the FIA ERC 2WD Championship section of the Sibiu Rally as “incredible”. Barbu, in a Citroën DS3 R3T, started the event-closing Superspeciala 2.0s behind Renault Clio R3 driver Alex Filip but came through to take victory by 2.9s after he outpaced Filip through the 3.50-kilometre stage. “It’s incredible,” said Barbu. “Last year we retired the same car and this year we came back and won. Thanks to the crowd and to Eurosport for a great event. It’s been very difficult but we have enjoyed it a lot.” Points leader Zoltan Bessenyey fought back to finish sixth in his Eurosol-Honda Civic Type R following a time-consuming puncture and broken exhaust on stage two. Title rival and fellow Hungarian Kornél Lukács dropped out of contention with a throttle valve issue on Friday afternoon while leading the category.
