Barcelona have told Manchester United that Cesc Fabregas will not be leaving the Nou Camp this summer. Fabregas, 26, was the subject of a bid of 30m euro ($40m; £25.8m) from the Premier League side earlier this week. On hearing of the bid the Spain international immediately contacted coach Tito Vilanova to rule out a move away from the Nou Camp. Vilanova conveyed Fabregas’s sentiments at his press conference earlier this week and Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu decided to try and completely put a lid on the rumours earlier on Friday. “Barça will ensure that it does not entertain any offers for Cesc,” Bartomeu told the Barcelona-based newspaper Sport. “Fàbregas can be regarded as non-transferable”. Fabregas has a 200m euro release clause in his contract with Barcelona. Arsenal have a £25m (29m euro) buyback agreement with Barcelona under the deal which took the player from the London club to the Nou Camp in 2011. On Wednesday, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said he considered United’s efforts to sign Fabregas as “a waste of time.” Wenger added that his club had not been asked to exercise their option and that his view was that Fabregas would spend next season with Barca. As well as contacting Vilanova earlier this week, Fabregas said in an interview last month that it was “a dream” to have returned to Barca in 2011 and one he wasn’t going to give up after such a short period of time, despite a loss of form last season. A move away from the club next summer cannot be ruled out, though. United’s vice-chairman Ed Woodward left the club’s Far East tour yesterday to fly back to England to attend to what was being described as “urgent transfer business” – possibly related to Fabregas but the news that Tito Vilanova is to step down as Barca coach through ill-health is likely to put the skids on any bid from United. - KAZ
