Barcelona’s 14-month transfer ban has given Chelsea fresh hope of landing Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero The Catalan giants have been forbidden from purchasing new players in the next two windows by world governing body Fifa, for breaking rules regarding the acquisition of youth players. Barca intend to appeal, but a source close to Chelsea told FDN the west London outfit intend to capitalise in the meantime. While there has been no encouragement from City, boss Jose Mourinho has made it clear that he urgently needs at least one world class forward this summer, and the source says the Argentina international is top of the wishlist. Aguero has three years remaining on his contract, having penned a 12-month extension last summer despite interest from Barcelona, and Chelsea are aware they may have to pay in excess of their £50million club record fee shelled out on striker Fernando Torres if they are to tempt title rivals City.
