Barely a week passes without some kind of a tiff witnessed between the Regular and Administration police in the fight against crime. It was a big mistake to keep the two outfits under separate commands, with an Inspector General who seems more beholden to the Regular Police. Time has come to do either of these two things: a) Merge the regular and administration units into one Police Force, or b) Create a county police service in which the Administration Police maintains public law and order, while the Regular Police is transformed into a purely criminal investigative unit. Otherwise, the rivalry will persist and more lives will be lost as was witnessed in Dagoretti Corner two days ago.
