Barnard RFP deadline is approaching! An update from TPS: The Tulsa Public Schools board is poised to consider proposals regarding the sale and redevelopment of the former Barnard site. The deadline for proposals is Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. A proposal made earlier this year by the developer of a residential nursing home/rehabilitation center was dropped due to a lack of neighborhood support, in spite of a $1.3 million offer for the property. “We have enjoyed a great relationship with our Barnard neighbors, and it’s important that we select a buyer that is the best fit with this historical neighborhood,” said Dr. Keith Ballard, superintendent. “In being sensitive to community concerns, we turned down what was otherwise an exceedingly fair offer for the property. Barnard is a valuable property, and as responsible public stewards we need to ensure that we receive a price that is fair and equitable. The proceeds will be used to make much-needed facility improvements throughout the district as well as for critically needed teacher allocations. There continues to be a great deal of interest in the property, and we look forward to receiving additional proposals by the September 19 deadline. Ultimately, it will be the responsibility of the TPS board to make a decision that is in the best interest of our children.” Once all proposals are received, a follow-up meeting will be scheduled with the community to discuss the best options. The date for that meeting has not yet been determined. “We wanted to issue this reminder to encourage creative thinking, as there have already been some interesting ideas suggested for this space,” said Ballard. “We look forward to viewing these proposals as we approach the deadline.” Contact: Chris Payne at 918-746-6898 or [email protected]
