Baseball views minor leaguers as seasonal farm workers and babysitters and, as of now, illegally pays them as such (they are paid as little as $5,500 a year). TA lawsuit has been filed by minor leaguers to fix this. So: baseball is now looking to render their horrendous treatment of minor leaguers legal by lobbying to have them exempted from minimum wage and overtime laws as set forth in the Fair Labor Standards Act. This despite the fact that minor leaguers work year-round, often without pay and are forced to subsist on bologna sandwiches.
