Basement finds: * Back issues of JET magazine from the 1950s and early 1960s. * Rare dinosaur comicbooks, from some seriously whacked WONDER WOMAN issues (some worth big bucks, I see) to beloved Mexican comics (some reprints of American dino comics, including KONA #1, some original to Mexican comics creators). * Carl Barks and John Stanley Dell Comics stashes. * A stash of Alan Moore esoterica from the 1990s, and lo and behold heres the copy of PSYCHIC SELF-DEFENSE by Dion Fortune (a beat-up 1957 edition) I bought in either Northampton UK or London UK, which I was steered to after a conversation with Alan and friends in the UK during the run of TWIN PEAKS (which would mean my last UK visit ever). I believe I bought the book on the same book shop visit with Alan to a shop specializing in such texts, where I was mainly searching for (and found) a chapbook about Matthew Hopkins, the Witchfinder General. So, I was reading the book at the time because of my London visit with Ray Harryhausen in his home, who talked to me about his interest in Madame Blavatsky. I picked up the Fortune book in hopes of getting some leads on Blavatsky and Harryhausens occasionally enigmatic references to same. I didnt get to the second half of the book (including Chapter 10) until after Id returned home to VT, and couldnt believe my eyes. The Black Lodge, Black Lodges connect with the underworld, etc. And this was all before Alans later phone calls about his life-change and shamanic aspirations—which roughly corresponded, as it turned out, with Alan deciding on exiling me from his existence. Conversations we never had, but Id hoped for, are reflected in the yellowing paper bookmarks tagged here and there in this copy of Fortunes book I held on to: the TWIN PEAKS conversation we never had. Curious find, and also surprised to find my original SINISTER DUCKS pin, a gift from Alan, in the same box, along with the SINISTER DUCKS single (45 RPM). Ill spin it next week, when Marge is away one day.
