Basic principles of the New Passport Card: - Must be over 18 to apply for a Passport Card - The Passport Card has a maximum validity of 5 years or the remaining validity of the Passport book - Must be in possession of your valid Passport book in order to apply for a Passport Card - Passport Card details must be exactly as they are on the Passport book. - Application fee €35 plus credit card transaction cost. Additional delivery cost outside Ireland approx €5 - Can only apply online or through the free app on phone/tablet Timeline: The Passport Card will be available to the public in mid-July 2015. Online application process: We will be offering one of the first fully online application processes for a passport in the world. The application can be made via the DFAT website or via a free app. This new online card application system will include a photograph compliance test component. Those using the app will be able to take a photograph of themselves on their mobile phone (a selfie), confirm that the photograph meets the international standards for passport photographs and complete the remainder of the application process on their phone.
