Basin Electric Safety Rep Wanted... Position Title: Safety Representative Department/Location: Health, Safety and Environmental Department Opening Date: October 17, 2013 Closing Date: October 31, 2013 Position Purpose/Job Function: This position contributes to the communication and maintenance of an effective safety program at DGC to prevent accidents, injuries, occupational illnesses, property damage and events which may inhibit the safe operational capability of the plant or its personnel. This position reports to the Safety and Industrial Hygiene Superintendent. Necessary Qualifications: This position must have skills at a level acquired through a B.S. degree in Safety, Medical Science, Engineering, Communication or a related field plus a minimum of one year of safety related experience preferably in an industrial/heavy construction setting or; through five years of full time safety experience in heavy construction or in an industrial facility. The incumbent must be knowledgeable on state and federal safety regulations and have the ability to apply these rules to specific work practices at DGC. Must possess the ability to obtain a CSP or CIH accreditation. Must possess personal computer skills. Excel, Word, and Access program experience is preferred. Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching below shoulder level, and use of keyboard/computer; and occasional stooping, bending, climbing stairs and ladders, kneeling, reaching above shoulder level, crawling, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds, use of tools, and turning valves. Frequently requires lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Requires good finger dexterity, ability to perform close work, good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. Frequently, may be exposed to fumes, chemicals, and noise and occasionally exposed to extreme heat, cold, dirt, dust, and poor ventilation when working in field conditions. May also require working in high climbing areas requiring use of safety equipment; and may involve work in confined spaces. Equipment operated includes small hand tools, air sampling pumps, and noise monitors. Requires the ability to handle diverse assignments and to work in a team environment.
