Bastards Dearest, Recent events and the influx of new members - TopicsExpress

Bastards Dearest, Recent events and the influx of new members have prompted us, the Administrators of Collodion Bastards, to update you all on the policy of this group. This will probably be long-winded but we think it all needs to be said. Collodion Bastards was originally created out of frustration resulting from censorship on other groups. The point was to have a place where free experimentation with the collodion process, freedom of speech, and freedom of content (within the bounds of wet plate and the occasional silly non sequitur) were king. Sadly and against our wishes, we have of late been repeatedly forced to question this open policy as we see some threads being pushed past the limits of decency and respect. We have, so far, always managed to work issues out in the spirit that defines this group in order to reinstate the decency that is momentarily lost. We do not relish playing the role of parent slapping wrists or breaking up schoolyard fights and do so only reluctantly when things get out of hand and threaten the integrity and well-being of the group. We have done our best never to delete anyone’s posts unless it was spam. Whatever has been deleted was done so by the authors of the posts themselves, with only one unfortunate exception a few weeks ago. We have, so far, never kicked anybody out either. So when we are forced to consider these options we do not do so lightly; we do our jobs and mediate in private messages rather than decapitate randomly. We do not ignore what happens or let rude children run wild; we monitor the page as closely as we can. We have one admin in the US, two in Europe so there is always one of us awake for you guys to talk to whether it be because of rudeness and disrespect or because someone posted an image you are offended by. Sometimes it can seem like it takes a while for us to react but please be patient—we work in opposite time zones and we make a point of discussing all the situations amongst ourselves to reach a compromise that satisfies everyone involved. We don’t pretend that we can satisfy everyone all the time, but we do strive toward that goal. Thank you for reading this note. Carry on, Your Adminstrators Isabel Leeson, Ines Opifanti, Gerald Figal
