Be Still and Know I held her sweet little 7 day-old body next to mine and she rested on me as if there was not a care in the world. Complete rest. Not a move. Sweetness and softness, epitomized. “That’s what I want for you,” Jesus whispered. I want you to quit trying so hard. I want you to relax and lay your entire weight on Me. Let me hold you. Let me nurture you. Let my heartbeat steady yours. After a long day of taking care of this sweet little one and her mommy, I came home, tired. Getting ready for bed, I looked at a plaque that has adorned our bedroom wall for months. Up until now it held no special significance, except that it was God’s word. But tonight it became God’s word to Sherrie. Personal. Unmistakable. Tender. I long to learn how to rest of your breast, Jesus, and feel your warm arms around me. Slow me down. Help me to appreciate the “little” things in life, like the artwork of my grandsons or a piece on the piano they play for me. Help me to show profound respect for each one of these little grandchildren you have given, for they are a gift from you. Oh, how I thank you, Jesus, that I only have to rest in you. The work is done. At last I can relax.
