Be doers of the word; and not hearers only, James 1:22 I had a hard time deciding what to post this week. My inspiration comes from several different sources, and this week nothing seemed to jump out as post-worthy. However, when I was reading our treasured verses, this verse seemed to have a special message for me. Perhaps it has a special meaning for you too? As followers of Christ, the Word made flesh, we are called to put our faith into action every day. We are instructed that works without faith is dead, and yet todays sermon and scriptures indicated that even dead things can be brought back to life if we allow the Spirit to take control. So often I find that my actions are done for a seemingly selfish reason. And then later I discover that someone else got a substantial benefit from my actions. I frequently spend a lot of time on the phone with people coming to see me for an appointment. Sometimes I feel like Im doing a good thing, and at other times Im just doing my job. But when those people tell me how much they appreciated me taking time to explain things to them, and making the appointment easier for them, then I know that the Spirit was working through me, even if I was being a reluctant vessel. It can be easy to come to church and worship, and then go home and not think any more about the sermon or scriptures (or fellowship) that you experienced Sunday morning. I know. Ive been guilty as charged on several occasions as well. But I also have experienced the joy that comes from letting the message settle deep within, causing a deepening of my faith, and gaining inspiration to live a life pleasing to God. So put your faith into action and look for opportunities to be the hands and feet, eyes and ears of Jesus. Go and do what you feel called to do in the name of (and for the sake of) the One who sacrificed everything because He loved us so much.
