Beacon primary endorsements for June 24 Primary Here is a recap of the Tulsa Beacon endorsements for the June 24 primary. Governor Mary Fallin is running against two unknown candidates with no resources who support legalization of marijuana. She will win easily. Superintendent of Public Instruction The Tulsa Beacon endorses Janet Barresi as the best choice. Janet Barresi supported Common Core when she thought the state had control and now she doesn’t because she sees a federal takeover of education. Joy Hofmeister has run a negative campaign and has aligned with some very powerful people who believe in liberal methodology and you have to believe that will affect how she runs the department. Hofmeister would mean a return to the days of liberal Sandy Garrett. Barresi is the better hope to improve education. Insurance Commissioner John Doak has done a great job as insurance commissioner in a four-year period filled with earthquakes, wildfires, floods, drought and tornados. He is the best commissioner Oklahoma has ever had. Corporation Commissioner The Tulsa Beacon endorses Todd Hiett. Former Oklahoma House Speaker Todd Hiett of Kellyville has been in the dairy business. He has been victimized in the past by bureaucratic regulators and will listen to the public. U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe is running against unknown candidates with no name recognition or resources and will win easily. U.S. Senator The Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund is proud to endorse T.W. Shannon in the Oklahoma Republican primary for U.S. Senate. However Randy Brogdon is endorsed by the Beacon and call him a constitutional conservative that has proven that in the Oklahoma Senate by the Beacon. Both James Lankford and T.W. Shannon will outspend Brogdon 10-to-1. Tulsa County District Attorney Kunzweiler is the clear choice. Steve Kunzweiler is the only experienced prosecutor in this race and is by far a better choice than Fred Jordan, who has no civilian prosecutorial experience. We don’t need a DA that needs on-the-job training. Kunsweiler is a man of faith and will run the office on the basis of the rule of law, not on politics. (Brian Crain’s name will be on the ballot but he has withdrawn.) Tulsa County Assessor Ken Yazel is the best friend Tulsa County property owners have ever had. He is a true fiscal conservative and completely honest. Yazel has cut the cost of running his office, increased the training level of his staff and made his records more transparent. His opponent, who doesn’t have a college degree, is clearly less equipped to handle this job. Vote for Ken Yazel. Tulsa County Commissioner District 1 Brian Pounds is our recommendation. State House District 69 Chuck Strohm is the only choice here for this open seat. His opponents support ex-mayor Kathy Taylor and the OEA. Strohm is the clear choice. State House District 76 David Brumbaugh has been outstanding as a conservative with keen insight into education and economic development. He is strongly connected to this conservative district in Broken Arrow. Vote for David Brumbaugh. State House District 79 Dr. Lois Jacobs is the clear choice here. She was the lone voice of reason on the Tulsa School Board. She has the academic and business background needed to get results in the House. Weldon Watson is a complete disappointment to conservatives in District 79. For results, vote for Dr. Lois Jacobs. State House District 98 Michael Rogers is a solid Christian conservative in tune with the people of this district. He was an All-American baseball player at ORU and a former principal and athletic director at Summit Christian Academy in Broken Arrow. Rogers has been endorsed by U.S. Rep. MarkWayne Mullin. Terri Cleveland is a politician with strong ties to chamber officials. Michael Rogers should get your vote. Nonpartisan District Judge Office 14 Kurt Glassco is a fair-minded, hard-working judge. He faces Jill Webb, an avowed lesbian, plus two other candidates that would enter office with questionable agendas (including legalization of marijuana). Glassco has great support from conservatives and liberals because he knows the law and rules on the basis of law. Tulsa City Council District 1 We have no recommendation. Tulsa City Council District 2 We have no recommendation. Tulsa City Council District 4 We have no recommendation but Councilor Blake Ewing has endorsed an initiative petition to put approval of medical marijuana on the state ballot in November. Tulsa City Council District 7 Don’t vote for Anna America. A liberal, she has strong ties to ex-mayor Kathy Taylor. We have no recommendation.
